Dog Theme Movie Night

So I am having a lot of fun with our Family Movie Theme Nights and create a new one last night. Check out my Family Movie Night Snack Bar post to see the original one I created.
Ari has been loving all the "Buddies" dog movies: Super Buddies, Santa buddies, and Spooky Buddies etc. so she wanted to watch "Air Buddies" for our movie night this Saturday so I decide to make a "Dog Theme Movie Night" to go with the movie. I found some great ideas from a post found on Pinterest title Family Movie Night-Bolt
on what food ideas to serve and I came up with some of my own.

First I printed out the Movie cover title we were watching and created the menu with my computer.

Now on to the food. I made Hot Dogs of course for our theme and Potato "Bone" Fries. On the post that I saw the lady made these for her Bolt dinner but didn't show how to make them so I figured I would make them how I make potato wedges.

First I took a long potato peeled and slice it as thin as I could and used a bone shape cookie cutter to make the shape.

Then I put them in a bowl and drizzled olive oil and salt on them and mix them together.

I layered the bone potatoes on a foil lined baking pan and baked them @400 for 25-30 min.

I also served Cinnamon "Bone" Tortillas and "Bone" Cheese.

To make the Cinnamon "Bone" Tortillas I took flour tortillas and cut them into bone shapes.

Then I spread melted butter on them and sprinkled cinnamon/sugar mix over them.

I then baked them in the oven @400 for 10-15 minutes or until crispy.

For the "Bone" cheese I took a block of Mozzarella cheese and cut it in slices and then used the Bone cookie cutter to shape them.

Instead of popcorn I served the girls "Puppy chow" (which is just the Chex Mix "Muddy Buddies"  recipe) in small dog bowls that I found at Dollar Tree. (No dog has eating from these bowls these were NEW ones I bought just for my girls)

This was our "Dog Theme Snack Bar"

Bri was so excited to eat out of her Dog Bowl!

They wanted to eat just like the dogs do LOL!!

They were having so much fun with their "Dog theme Food" and acting so silly. They REALLY  enjoy this movie night.

I hope you enjoyed this post and I hope it gives you ideas to do with your family.

Heart Shape Hot Pockets

Not wanting to waste anything especially food I decided to take the left over cut out cheese and turkey slices that I used to make our "Homemade Valentine Lunchable" and make "Heart Shape Hot Pockets".

All you need is:
  • Frozen Biscuits dough
  • Cheese
  • Turkey
  • Heart Shape Cookie cutter

Take the leftover cheese and turkey and chop them up into small pieces. Then roll out biscuit dough and use the cookie cutter to cut the shape out.

Add cheese and turkey to the dough.

Then add another piece of heart shape dough on top. Brush the top with butter and bake in the oven @350 until golden brown.

These came out better than the store bought ones and the girls love when I make their food into themes so this was a big hit.

Heart within a Heart Homemade Pizza

So I took our Homemade pizza recipe and put a Heart shape twist to it for Valentines Day. The girls love this pizza recipe better than regular pizza and making it heart shape was even better for them.
All you need is:
  • Slice Bread
  • Left over Spaghetti sauce
  • White cheese
  • Turkey slices
  • Heart shape cookie cutters

First we cut a heart shape out of the slice bread.

Then we added the left over spaghetti sauce.

Then the white cheese. You can use slice white cheese if you have it just cut it out into the shape of the bread to fit over the sauce.

Then take a smaller heart shape cookie cutter and cut out heart shapes out of the turkey slice.

Put the heart shape turkey slice in the middle of the pizza.

Put it in the oven @350 until the cheese melts and the bread is toasted.

This recipe was so easy to make the girls made it on their own.

When it was time to serve I added some strawberries that I cut into hearts.

The girls ate all of their heart pizza and wanted to make more!

Family Movie Night Snack Bar

So with all the dangers of going to the movies today with crazy people bringing guns and the price for a popcorn and drink can come out to $40 or more I decided to give my girls the movie experience at home with a "Family Movie Night Snack Bar". My girls LOVED it so much! This is how I made and set it up.

First I had to make a stand for the candy. At first I didn't know what I was going to use for the candy until I saw an Episode of the "Home and Family" show (which is one of my favorite shows) and saw a segment where Jessie Jane create a DIY Dessert-a-Dome for a Super Bowl party and the benches she made for the dome looked perfect to make for my Snack Bar for the candy. Check out her Dessert Dome it was nice! Also Jesse made available a template online to make the dome out of foam board yourself. (Click on the title and it will take you straight to the web page for the template and instructions on how to make the benches).

I printed the template on white cardstock so I can use them again and again for making the benches.

Then I cut the patterns out and started tracing it on Black Foam Board.

After I finished tracing all my pieces I used an X-acto knife to cute all the pieces out.

Then I took the four long pieces and hot glued them to the two big pieces one at a time giving the glue a chance to stick.

This is what it should look like when you are done gluing.

After the glue was dry I painted it all black to cover up the white and this was my candy stand!

I decided to buy snack size treats instead of the movie candy boxes because I didn't want my kids to eat too much candy and this way they can have a little of the candy they wanted. I made the Candy label sign on my computer.

For the candies that I couldn't find snack sizes I put them in these little circle containers that I found at Dollar Tree. I made labels for them on my computer so the girls knew what candy was inside them.

The two food trays that I used where ones I already had at home that I made for other Décor in my house. To make these trays all you have to do is glue a candle holder onto a big plate and then glue a small plate on top of the candle holder. That's it. I painted one black which I use for my perfumes in my room. If you do paint them DO NOT  put food directly on them because of the paint make sure the food is on a napkin or plate.

On one side of the Snack Bar we had Hot dogs and grapes. I cut the Hot dogs in half so everything was like a sample because there was a lot of food. I also included a fruit because I wanted them to have some healthy foods as well.

Next to that tray we had of course popcorn and we got these popcorn cups at Target.

On the other end of the Snack Bar we had nacho of course and yogurt again I wanted to have some healthy options.

Next to that tray I had juice in cups with lids.

This is the complete Snack Bar.

I use these cups and bowls that I found at Wal-Mart because I wanted to have cups with lids.

To make the carry trays I used gift boxes from Dollar Tree.

I glued a cup in the corner with a hot glue gun so that it can be a cup holder for the girls juice.

I also took big picture frame from Dollar Tree to create a Snack Bar Menu and also one to show the girls what movie is showing that night. I glued the signs into the picture frame but I tape the food labels and movie label on the outside of the glass so I can change them every week depending on the movie and food we have that week. I made the sign and labels on my computer.

I put the trays underneath the table for the girls to grab.

I brought the girls lawn chairs inside so it could be their "Movie Chairs". Yes they are Cars chairs someone was throwing them away and I just clean them and keep them for my girls. If I see good furniture being thrown out I will clean and fix it and keep it for myself. It is Free so my daughters can deal with it being Cars theme chairs LOL

My girls LOVED this so much they kept thanking me and can't wait to do it again. I think I will do Family Movie night like this from now on and just change the theme every week to make it fun.
